House Margarita - Adobo Grill - Indianapolis, IN

It turned out to be a tough question, with very few good answers: "where can we get a good margarita in downtown Indy?"  We got some basic suggestions like some very non-Mexican restaurants, where it would be possible to get a margarita, but probably not a particularly good one.  But for the most part everyone seemed pretty much clueless.  Kind of depressing, do they not drink margaritas here?????

But on day number 2 we finally got the information we have been so desperately seeking. "Try Adobo Grill on Washington Street".  Saved by a stranger!

Wow - what a neat place Adobo Grill is.  From the decor to the atmosphere to the cuisine, this was one awesome place tucked right in the middle of a steak and beer kind of town.

I took a seat at the bar and looked over the menu.  First margarita that caught my eye was the Maria Felix, which looked absolutely fantastic, but at $50.00 a pop, it just wasn't in the budget this go around, but maybe on a future visit.  I'm not adverse to paying good money for a good drink, but you do have to stretch those dollars.  So I went with the House Margarita instead which turned out to be a great choice.

With a name like "house margarita" there simply is no expectation of excitement, but the Adobo Grill version really had a unique flavoring to it.  Kind of hard to describe, but for sure it wasn't one of those sickly sweet mixes out of a grocery store bottle.  The menu didn't list anything earth-shattering in the ingredients, but they certainly added their own twist to the flavoring and it was worthy of a couple of refills.

The food at Adobo Grill was awesome as well!  From the salsa sampler, to the chicken enchiladas, I thoroughly enjoyed the meal and of course the margaritas.  I hear they have another location in Chicago, and I am headed that way soon.  Maybe I will give the Maria Felix a shot!

The House Margarita at Adobo Grill comes in as a 4 limer.

Cantina-Rita - Tower 7 - Wrightsville Beach, NC

Tower 7 is a great little hole-in-the-wall Mexican cafe with a unique twist to its menu offerings. They bill it as authentic Baja style cooking.  And with a slogan of Live Eat Surf, you can well guess that the decor is all about surfing, hanging out and great food & drink.  Its not to be missed if you are in Wrightsville Beach, though you might experience a wait to get in.  Seems like the place is never empty - but that's a good sign, right?  Definitely worth the wait, trust me!

So on this trip I decided to try the Prickly Pear Margarita.  Admittedly, its one of those specialty drinks that has to be done just right to make it a killer experience.  Unfortunately, theirs was not.  I give it a two limer at best.  But I wasn't ready to give up on Tower 7, because I knew how good the food was from previous non-drinking visits to the place.

My second margarita was the cantina-rita, which definitely lived up to my expectations, ranking a solid 3.0 and maybe reaching the  3.5 mark.  So good, that I ordered another and another.

They have a couple of other margaritas on the menu, but I never got past the cantina-rita, choosing to stick with what was working really well for me.

And as I said, the food here is awesome.  A great margarita and eating experience and because its local to me, Tower 7 is now a weekly favorite.

Don't let the 3 limer margarita ranking imply that there is anything substandard at Tower 7 - trust me you will enjoy the experience whether its margaritas, food or both.

The cantina-rita ranks a solid 3.0, maybe a 3.5, but we don't have that in our ranking system.
